Privacy Policy

Mnemo (mnemo.study) is run by Mnemo Study, a small Australian business based in South Australia. We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. We handle it in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

For any privacy question or request, email hello@mnemo.study.

• Account details: your name, email address and password (stored in a scrambled, hashed form), or the basic profile Google shares with us if you sign in with Google.
• Study material: the notes, files, links and text you add, the quizzes generated from them or written by you, your answers, and your review history and progress.
• Purchases: your plan, what you bought and when, and the payment status Stripe reports to us. We do not receive or store your full card number.
• Usage information: the pages you visit, features you use, when you were last active, and events such as opening or saving a shared quiz. This is linked to your account when you are signed in, and to a random session ID when you are not.
• Technical information: your IP address, approximate location (city and country), browser and device type, and error logs. For people who try the quiz generator without an account, we keep a one-way scrambled (hashed) version of the IP address to enforce daily limits, not the address itself.
• Messages you send us, for example support emails.

Please do not upload sensitive personal information (such as health records, or identity documents) as study material. We do not need it, and it would be processed like any other material you upload.

• to create your account, sign you in and keep it secure;
• to turn your material into quizzes and schedule your reviews;
• to process payments, manage your subscription and give you access to bundles you bought;
• to send essential emails, such as verification, password resets, receipts and notices about your account;
• to enforce plan limits and prevent abuse, such as fake accounts and automated use;
• to understand how Mnemo is used and improve it;
• to answer your messages and to meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your study material to train AI models.

If you share a quiz, anyone with the link can see a copy of its questions and answers. The link does not show your name or email address. A signed-in visitor can save a copy to their own library, and we cannot remove copies other people have saved.

When someone opens your link, we record events such as the visit, the completed quiz and any signup that follows. We use this to measure how sharing works, not to identify visitors.

We use trusted service providers to run Mnemo. They may only use your information to provide their service to us.

• hosting and database providers, which run our servers and the website;
• AI providers, which receive the material you ask us to turn into quizzes so they can generate questions, and your typed answers to written questions so they can be marked;
• text-recognition and search providers, which read text from scanned pages and images, and store the text of your documents so Mnemo can search it and build quizzes from it;
• Stripe, which processes payments and handles your card details;
• email providers, which send our emails and host our support inbox;
• Google, for “Sign in with Google” and analytics;
• backup storage, where our backups are encrypted before they leave our server.

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety or rights, or as part of a sale or restructure of the business, in which case this policy would continue to apply to it.

Mnemo is run from Australia, but most of the providers above store or process information outside Australia, mainly in India and the United States, and part of our team works from Nepal. We take reasonable steps to make sure anyone handling your information outside Australia protects it in a way that is consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Mnemo stores small pieces of information in your browser:

• Essential: your sign-in token, your light or dark theme, quiz progress, sound settings, and a note of where you came from (for example a shared quiz) so we can bring you back to it after you sign up.
• Analytics: Google Analytics, with IP anonymisation turned on, and our own usage records described in section 2. These help us understand which pages and features are used.

You can clear or block cookies and local storage in your browser settings. If you block essential storage, you may not be able to stay signed in.

We keep your information while you have an account. If you delete your account, we delete your account and study material within 30 days. Copies in our encrypted backups are overwritten over about the next two months. We may keep purchase records for longer, as tax law requires (usually five years).

Copies of your shared quizzes that other people saved to their libraries are not deleted with your account.

• See or correct your information: you can change most details in Settings, or email us for a copy of what we hold about you.
• Delete your account: use “Request account deletion” in Settings or email hello@mnemo.study.
• Stop a shared link: email us the link and we will turn it off.
• Emails: essential account emails cannot be turned off while you have an account. We will only send marketing emails if you agree to them, and every one will have an unsubscribe link.

Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, such as to object to some uses of your information or to ask us to move it to another service. Email us and we will help. We will reply within 30 days.

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, restricted server access and encrypted off-site backups. No system is perfectly secure, but if a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and, where required, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Mnemo is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

If you have a concern about how we handle your information, email hello@mnemo.study and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

We will update this policy when Mnemo changes how it handles information, for example before we add advertising measurement. We will post the new version here, update the date at the top, and tell you by email or in the app about significant changes.
